Last week she hit the news with the ID card targeting immigrants! Everyone entering the country will ‘by law’ be required to have the ID card. Next year Smith wants to introduce the ID system to all airport and high security workers in the UK Regardless of the mounting opposition against the scheme, Smith seems is ignoring everything and everyone who has an opinion opposed to the idea. Below is an up to date list of government data cockups that sooner or later will without doubt ‘end up in the wrong hands’.
Jan 2005: The government loses disks with information relating to all child credit claims?
Feb 2006: The government loses disks of DVLA records, Not only do they lose them but it turns out our personal driving data has been lost to an outsourcing company in the United States.
Nov 2007: The government loses data on 25 million people. Darling apologises and says it will not happen again. Three weeks later the NHS loses the medical files of 168,000 patients???
Jun 2008: Secret documents regarding information to the Iraq war were found on a seat of a London Bound train. Other personal government documents were also found on the same day on another train?
July 2008: The NHS loses data pertaining to thousands of phone call information from the Scottish Ambulance Service.
August 2008: 650 laptops and 100 memory sticks go missing from the MOD? Laptop with personal banking details ends up on Ebay? MOD contractor loses data on 84,000 prisoners in the uk?
September 2008: Police lose 4 gig memory stick with terrorist information on it? Data on 5,000 prison staff goes missing?
