David Blunkett. The Serial Position Abuser!Meet David Blunkett Number 2! ‘The secretary of Work & Pensions’? One of the newest members of the third term Labour cabinet. Chosen specifically for the role by ‘non other’ than the Prime Minister himself. However, There was a previous Blunkett! ‘David Blunkett Number 1’. He served in the core team for the new labour as home secretary, except ‘that’ Mr Blunkett Number 1 was caught pushing his former lovers nanny’s visa application to the top of the pile, in what was to become a blatant and public act of abusing his position!
Its hardly surprising that he chose to leave his former employers gracefully with an eighteen thousand pound check in his hand instead of walking the ‘dismissed with disgrace’ plank. The question is? Who gave him the choice! So Blunkett Number 1 shuffles off with his tail between his legs bearing the weight of bad form stamped on his employment record that ‘should’ follow him around for the rest of his working life. His parting statement to the media pertaining to his misdemeanours, ‘Was’ how he will be completely exonerated of all charges when he reveals solid proof of his innocence?
Several months and a general election later! ‘New Labour’ slink back into Downing street for another four years. And who turns up for work but ‘the shifty’ Mr David Blunkett number 2’? Does he bring with him the ‘much awaited’ proof of innocence from the ‘nanny gate scandal’? Does he disclose his past tarnished work record to his new employers!
The only bitching Blunkett received on the first day at his new job were several minor MP’s whining about having the eighteen thousand pounds ‘golden handshake’ back from his previous post? Even before the ink has dried on his new employment contract we get fresh allegations thrown into the media ring regarding a past abuse of position to ‘check up on his son’s schooling progress while he was education secretary a few years earlier. The story flies for a few days but drops back into obscurity. But it was no means the end of the scandal ridden Blunkett?
The penny dropped with someone high in office that Blunkett was bad news to the core? His directorship and shares in the company DNA Bioscience was dragged into public debate after it was found that DNA Bioscience was bidding for government contracts!
Not only did Blunket fail to tell the Advisory committee about Bioscience, he ignored three letters from Lord Mayhew of Twysden reminding him to seek advice about his involvement with Bioscience to the committee. If that wasn’t breaking the rules just a little bit, old Blunkett forgets to tell them about his other two paid jobs he is involved with?? World ORT , and Indepen Consulting??
Blair backed Blunkett right to the last minute, our irritating Prime Minister must have known his reinstatement of the troubled ‘one man and his dog’ MP was going to explode right in his face. Unless it was to beat the record of reinstatements to government posts first set by another dodgy character, Peter (Don’t mention the passports or the mortgage loan) Mandelson.
The form shown by Mr Blunkett could be construed as a ‘serial position abuser’ so we can’t afford to forget the Nannygate scandal, or the Son’s education ‘put first on the pile-gate’ scandal. Or even the Blunket Sex-gate (recently dramatised on TV) Scandal. And last but not least the ‘DNA Bioscience-gate scandal? Mix this up. Sprinkle the Eighteen thousand pound golden handshake pertaining to Scandal number two and three, and we have one hell of a ‘Iffy character’ Not to mention that he stayed in his Belgravia rent free accommodation for several months at the expense of the tax payer!!!
What a slap in the face!! If ever given the chance of being Blunkett’s butler, I would move his furniture around every morning!!
